Description

1881 Gold Dollar, MS69
Stunning Top-Grade Type Coin
Rarity

1881 G$1 MS69 NGC. A beautifully struck, luminous Type Three gold dollar, exhibiting shimmering fields and absolutely pristine surfaces overall. Rich orange-gold, rose, and peach-yellow hues adorn each side. The devices are sharp as well. The 1881 gold dollar is scarce in MS68, and Plus-graded pieces at this level are notably rare. However, merely a handful of finer examples are known, with PCGS and NGC combined reporting only five specimens as fine as MS69. It takes a special coin to achieve this incredible grade, and the current 1881 gold dollar certainly meets those expectations. As a type coin, this piece is impossible to surpass. Census: 4 in 69, 0 finer (11/24).
