Description

1885 Gold Dollar, MS68
Tied for Finest Known

1885 G$1 MS68 NGC. Interestingly, the 1885 gold dollar had one of the higher mintage figures of the period at 11,156 pieces, but is seen in high grade less often than most of its 1880s counterparts. This Superb Gem example is among the finest seen by either NGC or PCGS. Semiprooflike fields and warm honey gold color complement the carefully preserved surfaces and well-defined motifs. Numerous faint die striations in the fields should not be mistaken for hairline blemishes. A small alloy spot is noted near the AM in AMERICA. Census: 5 in 68, 0 finer (4/15).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25DP, PCGS# 7586, Greysheet# 8048)
