    Description

1885 Gold Dollar, PR67+ Deep Cameo
    Registry Grade Example

1885 G$1 PR67+ Deep Cameo PCGS. CAC. JD-1, R.4. A generous mintage of 1,105 proof gold dollars was accomplished in 1885, using two obverse dies and one reverse die to strike all the proofs. This coin represents the JD-1 variety, with a small lump on Liberty's forehead. Probably 100-150 examples of the JD-1 are extant in all grades today. The reverse die was also used to produce the JD-2 proof variety and some circulation strike coinage in 1885.

The present coin is a Plus-graded Superb Gem, with razor-sharp definition on the design elements and strong Longacre doubling on many features. The impeccably preserved yellow-gold surfaces include deeply mirrored fields that contrast boldly with the frosty devices. Eye appeal is terrific. Population: 5 in 67 (3 in 67+) Deep Cameo, 0 finer. CAC: 6 in 67, 0 finer (10/19).(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 25EV, PCGS# 97635)

    Weight: 1.70 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
