Description

Intriguing Clashed 1886 Gold Dollar, MS64

1886 G$1 MS64 NGC. Quite a number of these have been graded in comparison to the 5,000-coin mintage, easily explained by a lack of circulation when they were first coined. Most of the dates in the 1880s never entered circulation, and quite a few survive today. This lovely example has satiny orange-gold surfaces and sharp design details.
Both dies are clashed, but careful examination shows that the reverse was rotated slightly clockwise when the die clashing occurred, and now it is rotated slightly counterclockwise.(Registry values: N1793)
