Description

Beautiful MS66 1887 Gold Dollar

1887 G$1 MS66 PCGS. By 1887, the gold dollar was driven from American circulation by its silver and paper dollar equivalents. The business mintage of 7,500 pieces was probably intended only to prevent proofs from becoming the target of speculators. Well placed Philadelphia coin dealers set aside a number of examples, yet the date remains scarce, especially in upper grades. This is an intricately struck Premium Gem with exemplary preservation and dazzling luster. Population: 60 in 66, 22 finer (4/09).(Registry values: N2998)
