Sharp 1887 Gold Dollar, MS66
1887 G$1 MS66 PCGS. The 1887 is another low mintage issue from the 1880s with only 7,500 pieces struck. This late die state piece shows no evidence of the prooflikeness that is often seen on the date. Sharply struck, the surfaces are smooth overall with the soft, frosted mint luster that is commonly seen on well-produced coins from the Philadelphia Mint. The medium orange-gold surfaces are virtually abrasion-free with the only noticeable mark that could be useful for pedigree purposes being a small planchet depression in the reverse field just under the digits of the date.
