Gorgeous 1889 Gold Dollar, MS64 Prooflike
1889 G$1 MS64 Prooflike NGC. At first glance, this gold dollar looks exactly like a proof. Only close inspection reveals the tell tale signs that it is a business strike, including prominent planchet roller marks on both sides. Prooflike examples were struck from fresh dies, either just after they were first engraved, or following die polishing to remove clash marks. In the case of the present example, the latter is probably the case as a prominent die crack is visible at the top of the reverse.
