Description

1889 Gold Dollar, MS68
Tied for Finest Graded

1889 G$1 MS68 PCGS. Vibrant mint luster and distraction-free surfaces prevail on this Superb Gem 1889 gold dollar, last year of the denomination. Both of the coinage denominations bearing the Indian Princess motif would disappear in 1889, the one dollar and the three dollar gold. Only 29,900 of the smaller coin were struck, but many nice examples were set aside. The present example is among the top four at PCGS with none finer (9/14). The golden-orange surfaces show a hint of reddish color, and the sharp strike and paucity of marks make this a contender for a nice Registry Set or type set.(Registry values: N4719)
