Description

1849-O Open Wreath Gold Dollar, MS63
First-Year Southern Mint Issue

1849-O G$1 Open Wreath MS63 PCGS. Winter-2. The mintmark is low and a diagonal line runs just over the A in America on the Winter-2 variety. New Orleans struck a healthy 215,000 pieces for the inaugural 1849 gold dollar, and the 1849-O is accessible through MS62. The issue becomes scarce in MS64, and Gems are conditionally rare. This Select example has green-gold surfaces accented in orange overtones on softly lustrous devices that are well struck and devoid of noticeable abrasions. PCGS reports just 34 finer examples (4/26).
