Description

Sumptuous 5 Guineas of Queen Anne

Anne gold 5 Guineas 1713 AU58 NGC, KM535, S-3568, DVODECIMO edge. Hailing from the penultimate year of Anne's reign this gently-handled example offers lovely struck details and reveals eye-catching peripheral brilliance at the tilt of the wrist. Although admitting isolated marks to the fields and a light reverse rim bump at 6 o'clock, this remains a fully commendable representative that attracts the gaze with its satisfyingly rich golden hue.

Queen Anne never had any surviving children, and her reign marked the end of the Stuart dynasty. She died on August 1, 1714, and was succeeded by her distant cousin, George I of the House of Hanover, starting the Hanoverian era in Britain.
