Description

Elizabeth II silver Specimen Crown 1966 SP65 NGC, ESC-4347 (R2). An intriguing unofficial Pattern by R. G. Hunt and A. M. Foley for the British Treasury, seeking to be applied to both a silver 5 Pounds and gold 25 Pounds issue. Rarely do examples appear at auction, this being the first opportunity we've had to offer the type. The design here clearly distinguishes itself from contemporary British numismatic styles, blending the linear Art Deco touch of Percy Metcalfe with neoclassical attention to sinuosity and hypernatural contour. Hints of lavender and peach tone enliven the well-prepared flan, increasing the visual appeal of the design itself. Tied at the second-highest grade at NGC out of 10 pieces graded there, one of the finest attainable representatives both conditionally and aesthetically.
