Description

Charles I 30 Shillings ND (1637-1642) AU50 NGC, Edinburgh mint, KM87, S-5553. Briot's milled issue. Charles on horseback left, sword raised; tiny B and flower (anemone) at end of obverse legend; the sword extends through the X of REX to the outer circle; CAROLVS • D : G • MAGN • BRITAN • ET • HIB • REX / Square topped shield; QVÆ • DEVS • CONIVNXIT • NEMO SEPARET •. A well-preserved 30 Shillings, the finest our company has offered and bearing the currently highest awarded grade in NGC's census for the type. Interestingly, this type was struck with mill and screw press rather than traditional hammering, a minting method approved by the Lords of Secret Council in January 1637. Certainty a piece to catch the attention of a quality-conscious collector.
