Description

Superb and Original 1654 Commonwealth Half Crown

Commonwealth 1/2 Crown 1654 AU53 NGC, S-3215, ESC-45 (R3) (prev. ESC-435A). Sun mm. An exciting offering that features the shield of St. George within a wreath with legend surrounding. Particular attention is drawn to the word Commonwealth in which the first "O" is struck over an "M". The reverse of the piece features the well-defined conjoined shields of St. George and Ireland. Struck on a mostly-circular flan with silvery-gray patina and underlying brightness. A excellent example of this scarcely encountered variety.
