Description

Elizabeth II Threepence 1965 Mint Error, as KM-900. This particular Threepence was struck without a collar so that the brass filled out and up to a depth of 7 mm's! The reverse is a shallow impression of the portcullis with the edge folded over--often called a "capped die". It is hard to really define this as an "error" because the depth of the brass and the inscription on the reverse make it seem that this would more likely be labeled as a "mint sport". Possibly a lunch-time experiment to see who could strike the "thickest thruPence"?
