Description

George II Crown 1735, S3686, D1347, 30.04g, Young laureate Bust, Roses & Plumes reverse, OCTAVO edge, MS61 NGC, variegated dark gray toning but not without charm, the surfaces smooth and pleasing, the strike quite sharp with a good portrait (and chevron), classic bifurcated letters in the legends, moderate rims more even than most (see images in the Spink book), and thus a pleasing specimen without doubt. The king's numerous abbreviated German and English titles crowd the reverse legend. Struck from native silver refined in a coal-driven smelter. A classic of its times.
From the Grundy Collection.
