Description

George II Crown 1746-LIMA, S3689, Old laureate draped Bust, MS63 PCGS, Choice UNC, an elegant coin bearing a sharp strike and super-smooth, old-time golden gray iridescent toning. When the British coined the silver and gold captured from the Spanish off the Philippines by Admiral Anson and taken back to England in seized treasure ships, they placed the word symbolizing the original of the specie beneath King George's portrait as a way of snubbing their Spanish enemies, intending the coins to be widely spent as political statements of British superiority. Tons of silver was made from this booty and most of the silver coins thus minted did indeed circulate long and hard. Few pieces were spared, but some were saved as mementoes. Lucky for us they were, and here indeed is a prize for today's numismatists. The condition is exceptional.
