Description

George II Proof Crown 1746 PR64 PCGS, KM585.2, S-3690, ESC-1669 (R). Bust D // Type 3. VICESIMO edge. With a reported mintage of just 100, this denomination was struck for the first collectors silver Proof set made by the Royal mint. An iconic example of British numismatics, the Crown would have been the largest denomination from the 4-piece Proof set (1/2 Crown, Shilling, and 6 Pence), originally intended for high-ranking individuals or institutions. Dark olive green and lavender hues melt across the planchet, as bright flashes of amber are revealed with the flick of the wrist. A historic emission struck with the intention of finding a place among the keen collector's cabinet.
