Description
George III gold Spade Guinea, 1798. S-3729. A lovely, bright-luster example that is sharply struck, despite the shallow engraving of its style. MS62 PCGS Terner Registry. Exceptionally nice, and seemingly under-graded by a point or even two, because most collectors would proudly call this "Choice Uncirculated" and it would be a standout in nearly any group of British gold coins. Catalogues for £600 (about $1,200 at press time) in EF in Spink's value guide. Nice pieces such as this (but, in fact, perhaps not technically quite so nice as this coin) have been fetching about $1,300-$1,500 lately in London sale--without the Terner pedigree. This is one of Dr Terner's duplicates. Simply beautiful!Metal: Gold
Diameter: 25.00mm
Weight: 8.35g
AGW: 0.2462oz
