Description

George III Octagonal Counterstamp c. 1797, S-3766. Bank of England issue with Octagonal counterstamp on a 1786 Mexico City 8 Reales. The coin and counterstamp are lustrous XF with light toning, which creates a very attractive coin. This was the Bank's attempt to foil counterfeiters of their oval counterstamp.
From the Dr. Patrick Tan Collection.
