Description

George III Sixpence 1818, S3791, MS66 NGC, a Superb Gem, and a rare date in this short-lived series that once catalogued for quite a bit higher than the few other dates but no longer does, yet it remains much harder to find in any grade of UNC, and in this elegant state of preservation, which nears perfection, it is truly difficult to find, and this specimen is just stunning: boldly struck with gleaming "hard" luster sheathed in gorgeous bluish green iridescent toning overlaying a luscious and intense silver base, the reverse shield being delicately frosted. This outstanding coin has an "electric" eye appeal that should propel its winning bid to a level commensurate with the rarity of the quality presented here. Several die breaks accentuate the boldness of the strike, and several letters of the legend are imperfectly engraved, most notably the "G" in D:G:", which is boldly doubled.
