Description

George IV Crown 1822 MS66+ PCGS, Royal mint, KM680.2, S-3805. TERTIO edge. Lovely rainbow toning along the edges and highlighting the devices. The technical merits of this coin cannot be overstated. This is the single finest example seen by either NGC or PCGS; the next highest graded examples are in MS65 (one seen by each service). While this is a type that does come up for sale a few times every year at various auctions around the world, Mint State examples are quite scarce, and Gem Mint State examples are real rarities. Indeed, it may not be a stretch to call this the finest known example of this already scarce type.
