Superior Bare Head Proof Sovereign

George IV gold Proof Sovereign 1826 PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS, KM696, S-3801, W&R-237 (R2), Friedberg 377a. The second of George IV's portraits employed for Sovereign coinage, known as the "bare head" type, redesigned the previous year at the King's request in an attempt to portray his likeness in a more flattering, less portly, fashion. The present selection is a masterful example of the type, at the peak of all known certified specimens, surpassed by none. The lack of hairlines and surface chatter is astounding but the Deep Cameo designated contrast really makes this piece visually pop. The equal of the Millennia example, an extraordinary coin that should be of great interest to uncompromising collectors seeking the best examples money can buy.
