Description

George IV Proof 1/2 Crown 1825 PR64 NGC, KM695, S-3809, ESC-644 (R2). Plain edge. A charming and very challenging forerunner to George IV's 1826 Proof set, offering the first presentation of Wyon's iconic bare head portrait of the monarch. Deeply watery, providing a considerable backlight that ignites underlying cobalt, merlot, and harvest coloration, this piece presently stands as the sole finest at NGC, with just a single example grading a point higher at PCGS.
