Exceedingly Rare James II Coronation Medal in Gold

James II gold Coronation Medal 1685 UNC Details (Obverse Scratched) NGC, by J. Roettier, Eimer-273, MI I-605/5-6. Obv. Laureate, armored, and draped bust of James II right. Rev. An arm appears from heaven holding a crown; below, a laurel wreath rests on a cushion. The date is below in exergue. Full, bright golden mint luster covers both the obverse, and reverse. Moderate marks, and hairlines, are displayed on the reverse, while the obverse has a few larger hairline scratches. Even with these imperfections, the appearance is quite pleasing. According to Daniel Fearon, in his, "Catalogue of British Commemorative Medals, 1556 to the Present Day," a minuscule 200 pieces of this medal were struck in gold. This is the only example of this medal, in gold, that we have offered. Exceedingly rare.
