Description

James II Half Guinea 1688, S-3404, MS63 NGC, a full Uncirculated example of this rare issue, the final of just 3 years of mintage for the type. Light planchet streak across the obverse, resulting from oxidation of the tin component of the gold alloy, and softly struck on part of the portrait (and on the opposing position on reverse, on part of the shield), but the luster is lovely and complete, as the NGC certification attests. 2008 Spink catalogue value is £3500 in XF grade.
