Description

Victoria bronze pattern Penny 1860, Peck-2133, unfinished Britannia reverse motif in stark relief against bare fields, PR64 BN restrike NGC, a most pleasing example having dark reddish brown surfaces. Probably made by Shorthouse for Moore, although the documentation is slight for those employing die style 96 (see Peck's comments, page 486 of his study). This reverse is only rated rare by Peck, but this cataloguer cannot recall the last time he encountered one to describe. Seldom offered or seen. An excellent penny!
