Description

Victoria Crown 1845 MS63+ NGC, KM741, S-3882, ESC-2564 or 2566 (edge stops not visible). Among the most notoriously mishandled and heavily circulated of Victoria's Crowns, it comes as a welcome surprise, then, to find the coin on offer here in such wonderfully choice preservation. Perhaps precluded from nearing any closer to gem certification on account of a few light marks on the young Queen's cheek, the strike is otherwise exemplary, both faces wheel with cartwheel luster and the reverse is almost untouched. Strong smoky patination grips the fields and devices alike, champagne color emerging from behind a mottled lilac chroma. It seems fair to us to compare this piece with the MS64 we sold last January, which brought an impressive $11,700.
