Description

Victoria Farthing 1869, S3958, Laureate or Bun Head, MS65 RB NGC, a fairly rare date in this lovely series that is highly popular among collectors, cousin to the important penny of 1869 but given a very modest catalogue valuation, which actually reflects coins far below this coin in quality. This beautiful farthing has nearly full golden red shimmering luster, is crisply struck on the portrait and fairly sharp overall on Britannia, and shows almost no abrasions, as the "65" grade indicates. A tiny bit of light carbon is noted but this remains one of the finest 1869 farthings anyone is likely to possess. Our estimate is based on the £150 Spink price for UNC in the 2010 edition of their SCBC, but we would not be surprised to see this gorgeous coin fetch multiples of that.
