Description
Victoria Proof Crown 1887, S3921, PF66 Cameo NGC, Jubilee Head, Superb Gem Proof, a wonderful coin, one of the very best ever seen, taken from the same original set as two other proofs in this collection (earlier noted), close to perfection and having beautifully frosted reverse devices as well as the cameo portrait, perfect proof impression of the dies, flawless squared-off rims, glittering mirror fields sheathed in delicate champagne-gold and pale bluish mauve iridescence. Precious few pieces of the meager mintage for the Jubilee Proof Sets have come down through the past 123 years in this pristine condition. The cataloguer recalls the Terner specimen selling for nearly $10,000 five years ago, and this coin is essentially its equal. From the Exeter College Collection
