Description

Victoria Proof Halfcrown 1839, KM-740, PF65 NGC, Plain edge, Medal die axis, with one plain and one ornate fillet in the Queen's hair, W.W. raised on the truncation. Spink actually doesn't have this variety listed, but it is one of the two die alignments that the Proof sets held. As with the other 19th century Proofs in this sale, this has the dark blue tone that we see on coins stored in their cases of issue. This is a particularly attractive example and a Proof is the only way that a collector could expect to put this date into their collection.
