Victoria Shilling 1893, S3940, Old or Veiled Head, MS66 NGC, another Superb coin, this one possessing exquisite light gold and sea-green iridescent toning. Very scarce in this outstanding condition. The owner of this collection, who attended Exeter College at Oxford University and intends to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this collection to that college, has assembled a staggering array of Gem and Superb Gem coins conCentrating on the 19th and early 20th centuries. The cataloguer cannot recall seeing another collection of these coins that consistently contained nothing but super-quality coins, most of which were purchased, incidentally, without being certified; the fact that they have only recently been slabbed, and mostly were graded in the 65-66-67 categories, demonstrates the quality that was sought and obtained. Bidders in this sale, which is a very rare opportunity, have it much easier, all the coins being already certified. It is unlikely that a sale such as this will recur any time soon.
