William & Mary gold "Elephant & Castle" 5 Guineas 1692 MS61 PCGS, KM479.2, S-3423, Schneider-Unl. A magnificent specimen of scarcely paralleled quality. These large multiple Guinea issues are almost never encountered in Mint State; their size and weight often cause severe friction and edge knocks, and their visual appeal can commonly lead to cleaning or inclusion in jewelry. As such, the present offering is exceptional, and premium even for its impressive grade. Sublime sharpness graces William and Mary's jugate portraits, alongside canary-yellow color simply alive with fresh mint luster. Some minor as-made metal flaws and a scattering of light contact marks define the certification but certainly do not detract from the visual effect this coin commands. The elephant and castle hallmark, denoting the gold for this coin being sourced by the Royal African Company of England, is boldly struck-up and eye-catching.
