Description

William III Crown 1695 MS66 NGC, Royal mint, KM486, S-3470, ESC-991. First Bust/OCTAVO edge. A remarkable masterpiece of the date and type, drenched in mesmerizing patina throughout, with a base of soft peach-orange and mauve tone on both sides and an overlying saturation of pale orange, yellow and blue coloration that sweeps over the obverse surfaces and sits along the reverse legends, imparting an unmistakably dazzling effect that makes it difficult to stop viewing. Beneath the tone, the surfaces remain amazingly intact for a coin over 300 years in age, with nary a mark visible to the naked eye and only a few as-made flyspeck haymarks here and there. Lastly, the strike is full, leaving no detail incomplete. Altogether a miracle coin, this offering is certain to break hearts, as there can be only one winner when the hammer falls, and the rest, long into the future, will surely consider it "the one that got away".
