DescriptionSaint Domingue. Copper Halfpenny, Fonrobert 7621, Estrella page 125-6 and Burzio Tomo I, page 252. This fascinating issue is believed to have been struck by the British, possibly 1793-95 or 1809-14 as suggested by Burzio. The obverse features a bearded bust, presumably of Turcu Pellerius, while the reverse design is a seated figure facing the rising sun and HISPANNIOLA. Very rare and an important and little-known piece of the numismatic history of the Island of Hispaniola. Crude F-VF, porous surfaces and uneven strike.
From the Morris Geiger Collection.
