Description

1793 Liberty Cap Half Cent, AU53
    Scarce First-Year Variety, C-1, B-1

1793 1/2 C AU53 PCGS. C-1, B-1, High R.3. Manley Die State 1.0. Half cents were struck for the first time in 1793, with four die varieties known for the date. This coin represents the least available variety, C-1, B-1, easily recognized by the periods after CENT and AMERICA, and the long 7 in the date. The C-1, B-1 was the first variety struck during the year, making it the most important half cent variety of the initial year of coinage.

The present coin is an attractive AU53 example with glossy medium brown surfaces that show no sign of corrosion. The design elements are well-detailed, with just a trace of wear on the high points. Only a few minor abrasions are evident and they do little to impact the strong visual appeal. Housed in a green label holder. Our EAC grade XF45.
