Important 1793 Half Cent, C-3, AU53
1793 1/2 C AU53 PCGS. C-3, B-3, R.3. The 7 in the date is small, and the fraction is crowded between the ribbons on the reverse. A magnificently detailed chocolate-brown representative of this single-year type, struck during the first year of operations at the Philadelphia Mint. The Liberty Cap design is undoubtedly based upon the influential Libertas Americana medal, which features a bust of Liberty facing left. Although Liberty Cap half cents were struck through 1797 and cents of that type were produced through 1796, Liberty faces right on all of those dates except for the 1793 half cent.There is no hint of verdigris on this example, and the surfaces are smooth. A few thin marks are noted above the date, on the neck, below OF, and near the H in HALF. The strike is bold, save for a touch of softness on the hair. MRB 30.(Registry values: P8)
