Description

1793 C-1 Half Cent, AG3
First Die Marriage of the Denomination

1793 1/2 C C-1, B-1, High R.3, AG3 PCGS. Steel-brown surfaces contain faint hints of orange-russet. The obverse is clear, but the lower two-thirds of the reverse is obliterated by wear. The C-1 was the first die marriage produced for the year, and as such, was the first die marriage produced of the denomination. Examples of this die marriage skew towards the lower end of the grade distribution, but these lower-grade pieces seldom come with attractive surfaces and color, making the present offering a rare appearance of an attractive example.
