Description

1793 C-1 Half Cent
First 1793 Half Cent Variety

1793 1/2 C C-1, B-1, High R.3, PCGS Genuine. The PCGS number ending in .94 suggests Altered Surfaces as the reason, or perhaps one of the reasons, that PCGS deemed this coin not gradable. In our opinion, this coin has the details of a AU specimen that has been cleaned.

Manley Die State 1.0. An elusive early die state without the usual rust streaks in the left obverse field, and with HALF CENT bold. The C-1 die pair is believed to be the first of four die marriages used in 1793, and the early die state means this is one of the first half cents ever coined at the Philadelphia Mint. This lightly cleaned example has variegated tan and olive-brown surfaces with good overall eye appeal. Our EAC grade VF20.
