Description
1793 Half Cent, C-1, B-1, XF45
Choice Chestnut-Brown Surfaces
1793 1/2 C C-1, B-1, High R.3, XF45 PCGS. CAC. Manley Die
State 2.0. A glossy, lightly marked example of America's first half
cent variety, struck in the early days of the Philadelphia Mint and
made from sheet copper. The Liberty Cap design with head facing
left was employed only in 1793. A modified design with the head
facing right was introduced in 1794.Struck from an intermediate die state, this CAC-endorsed 1793 example is free from most of the environmental factors that normally affect the issue. Die deterioration is visible particularly on the reverse, where HALF CENT is legible but indistinct in places from die fatigue. Small voids and flaws are planchet-related, rather than a result of mishandling or damage. On the obverse, high point wear is visible on the cheek and upper hair strands along with a few light circulation marks. The eye appeal and color of this mostly smooth, chestnut-brown coin are impressive. Our EAC grade VF30.
