Description

1793 C-3, B-3 Half Cent, Fine Details
The Third of Four Varieties

1793 1/2 C C-3, B-3, R.3 -- Scratch -- PCGS Genuine. Fine Details. The four 1793 half cent varieties are die-linked from two obverse dies and three reverse dies. Detailed die state analysis tells us that the variety presentation in the Cohen and Breen half cent references is the proper striking or emission sequence. Mint workmen Thomas Flude and Daniel Gerard struck all the 1793 half cents between July 19 and July 25, 1793, under the supervision of Chief Coiner Henry Voigt. The report of additional pieces struck in September appears incorrect. This two-tone half cent displays steel-brown fields and cinnamon-brown devices with old scratches on both sides that only detract slightly from the eye appeal.
