Description

1793 Half Cent, C-3, XF40
Single-Year Introductory Type

1793 1/2 C C-3, B-3, R.3, XF40 PCGS. The obverse is pale olive-brown in color with hints of rose hues on the highpoints, while the reverse is predominately light lavender-brown, although areas of medium tan patina are found near the denomination. A tiny ding on the reverse before 5 o'clock and a few short and inconspicuous pinscratches on the obverse field do not distract the eye. All major details of the design are bold on this 1793 half cent, which represents the first year of the denomination and the only year of the Bust Left Liberty Cap Type. Many an early copper type set lacks a sharp example of this desirable type. Struck a few degrees off center toward 11 o'clock.
