Description

1793 C-4, B-4 Half Cent, XF40
The Usual Die State

1793 1/2 C C-4, B-4, Low R.3, XF40 PCGS. Manley Die State 2.0. In the Half Cent Die State Book, Ronald Manley notes that this variety "is usually only available in low grades." The present piece, an exception to his rule, is a lovely example of the first half cent issue from the Philadelphia Mint, exhibiting chocolate and steel toning with splashes of olive on the high points. A small patch of old corrosion is just left of Liberty's neck. Splashes of maroon patina appear at the upper obverse and on the reverse. This piece has a thin horizontal line of planchet lamination across the obverses. Our EAC grade VF25.
