Elusive 1794 C-7, B-7 Half Cent, VG8
1794 1/2 C Small Edge Letters. VG8 Uncertified. C-7, B-7, R.5. Breen State III. Manley State 2.0. EAC 8. The usual late die state with clash marks on both sides. The reverse has a crack through E of UNITED that curves up to the H in HALF and the leaves above that letter..The rarest of three varieties from the High Relief obverse die. Liberty's hair is treated entirely unlike earlier dies, with the details sunk deeply into the steel. A result of the contour is that traces of wear leave noticeable flat spots or worn areas, rendering successful grading nearly impossible.
The obverse borders on choice with pleasing light brown, intermingled with faint traces of olive. The reverse has considerable mahogany, with evidence of stable old corrosion.
