    Very Rare B-4b, C-6a 1794 Half Cent

1794 1/2 C VF20 Corroded Uncertified. B-4b, C6a, R.6. This is an very rare half cent variety. Only 20 pieces are believed known today, according to Breen's 1983 half cent book, and as far as we can determine this is the first example we have offered in at least ten years. The variety is distinguished by a normal head of Liberty and the date spaced 1 79 4. On the reverse, the legend is widely spaced and well executed. The letters on the edge are small. There is also a Large Letters variant, but it is rated R.8 with only one piece known, and would thus be considered as non-collectible. The coin shows even wear throughout and evidence of light corrosion gives the coin a matte-like appearance. Even brown patina. Examination with a magnifier reveals a number of crisscrossing scratches in the center of the obverse, and a small but noticeable planchet flaw is seen in the right obverse field to the right of Liberty's nose.
