Important 1794 High Head C-1 Half Cent
1794 1/2 C XF45 NGC. C-1, B-1, R.3. Also cataloged as Breen-1504 from his Complete Encyclopedia. This is a Doubled Date variety, the date first cut too low, then corrected. Two edge variations are known, with Small or Large Edge Lettering. It is impossible to know which variety this is without removing the coin from the slab. As planchets with their edges already lettered were mixed together before striking, it is not possible to determine the edge type from the die state. Both edge types are known in early, intermediate, and late die stages. This is a splendid example with only minor abrasions and a shallow scratch in the right obverse field. The surfaces are medium brown with olive color. Light clash marks are present on the obverse and on the reverse.(#1003) (Registry values: P7)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2223, PCGS# 1003, GSID# 432)
