Description
Desirable 1796 C-2, B-2 With Pole Half Cent, AG3
1796 1/2 C With Pole AG3 PCGS. C-2, B-2, R.4. The 1796 half cents, both the With Pole and No Pole varieties, are the classic key-date issues of the denomination. Only about 100 With Pole coins and a couple dozen No Pole coins are known in all grades, and they are seldom seen above Good. The example that is now offered is a delightful piece for the grade, with dark brown surfaces and a few old obverse and reverse scratches that are entirely blended with the surrounding surface. The obverse is absolutely full Good, while the reverse is nearly smooth, typical of the issue with a strong obverse and weaker reverse. PCGS has assigned a grade that undoubtedly takes into account the appearance of both sides, and in this regard is the same approach used for our grade of EAC 3.(Registry values: P9)Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 1027, GSID# 447)
