    Bold 1797 1 Above 1 Half Cent, AU50 PCGS

1797 1/2 C 1 Above 1 AU50 PCGS. B-1, C-1, R.2. Manley Die State 3.0, "Rare." A distinctive variety with an entire thin 1 entered directly above the prominent 1 in the date. The die crack through the Y in LIBERTY is faint, while a pair of die cracks in the lower right obverse field are readily visible. The dies are slightly rotated counterclockwise. Struck on a cut-down Talbot, Allum & Lee Cent host; STO in STORE from the undertype is legible above the NIT in UNITED. A mahogany-brown example with a bold portrait and only a hint of granular surface. A curved mark near the denominator is likely from a planchet cutter prior to the strike. (#1042)
