Description

1797 C-1 Half Cent, VF30
1 Above 1, Plain Edge

1797 1/2 C Plain Edge, 1 Above 1, C-1, B-1, R.2, VF30 NGC. Manley Die State 2.0, "very scarce." A midgrade representative with generally smooth chocolate-brown surfaces. Curved lines on the obverse at 3 o'clock, and above OF, are retained from the planchet. The dies were out of parallel, which results in a sharper impression on the upper obverse and lower reverse. As is the case with most, if not all, 1797 C-1 half cents, the present piece was overstruck on a cut-down Talbot, Allum & Lee token. Traces of the undertype show below the 17 in the date. Our EAC grade Fine 15.
