Description

1802 C-2 Half Cent, Fine 12
Unusually Well-Preserved Key Date

1802/0 1/2 C Reverse of 1802, C-2, B-2, R.3, Fine 12 NGC. Chocolate-brown surfaces contain regions of steel-brown and hints of red-copper on the reverse. Abrasions are grade-consistent, and microscopic granularity is confined to the upper right quadrant of the reverse and does not detract from eye appeal. This issue's survival rate was boosted by the examples saved by Philadelphia dealers from coins turned into the Mint after the denomination's discontinuation. However, the date is still unknown above XF and very rare in VF, making it an important conditional rarity.
