The 'Cross-Eyed Zeros' Reverse

1803 1/2 C Widely Spaced 3, C-3, B-3, R.1, MS63 Brown PCGS. CAC. Ex: Carvin Goodridge Collection. Manley Die State 3.0 shows a slight bulge through the 18 of the date. The reverse die has the 00 of the denominator touching, a diagnostic of the variety that is sometimes labeled the "Cross-Eyed Zeros." This Select Mint State piece has lustrous chocolate-brown surfaces with splendid lavender and iridescent toning. An exceptional example of the intermediate die state that was likely struck in 1804 as were most 1803-dated half cents. Population for all varieties: 9 in 63 Brown, 3 finer. CAC: 1 in 63, 0 finer (1/25).
